New to Korean skincare? Start here. We break down the essentials so you can build a simple, effective routine without feeling overwhelmed.
Korean skincare can look intimidating at first — 10 steps, dozens of product types, and a whole new vocabulary. But the good news is: you don't need all of it to get started. A solid beginner routine uses just three to four products and takes less than five minutes.
Start with a gentle, low-pH water-based cleanser. Korean cleansers are formulated to clean without stripping your skin barrier — look for ingredients like amino acids or centella asiatica. Cleanse morning and evening.
A good moisturiser locks in hydration and strengthens your skin barrier. Gel moisturisers work well for oily and combination skin; cream textures suit dry or sensitive skin. Apply while your skin is still slightly damp.
Sun protection is the single most impactful skincare step you can take. Korean sunscreens are lightweight, non-greasy, and often double as a primer — making them easy to wear daily. SPF 30 minimum; SPF 50 is ideal.
Once your skin has adjusted to the basics (give it two to four weeks), you can layer in additional steps one at a time:
Apply products from thinnest to thickest consistency. Water-based products go before oil-based ones. Less is more when you're starting — a consistent simple routine beats an inconsistent complex one every time.
